Whether you have a pond or water feature in your backyard this is a must have for any homeowner. Having a dirty water utility pump on hand at all times doesn’t have to cost you a ton of money either. Here is a hands on review of the Stark ½ horsepower submersible pump.
One Size Fits All
This little pump will give you peace of mind knowing you can deal with any situation. From pumping out your basement, to draining your pond (link to our pond spring cleaning video) for spring or fall maintenance. This little pump is on standby always ready to get the dirty job done.
I can tell you from personal experience this is one of those tools you don’t know you want or need until you need it. From draining a pool cover, backing up a sump pump, or draining a pond (link to how to build a pond article) for a spring cleaning this thing has you covered.
This pump comes with a float. The pump will only turn on when the float is in an upright position. It is designed to replace a sump pump, and kick on when the water level rises to a certain level.
It can be a pain If you are trying to completely drain something. For instance when you finish building your pond and rinse off the dirt from your rocks.
It is easy enough to deal with, simply propping up the float does the trick. This is the only complaint I have and it is in no way a deal breaker. It shouldn’t even be a strike against it for the simple fact that it was designed that way on purpose.
All Around The House
When it was time to remove our pool cover for the year, what normally takes days was cut down to about an hour. Typically the water that collects on my pool cover all winter needs to be syphoned off. This takes about a day or so. Using this dirty water pump the water was gone in about an hour.
My pool cover was full of leaves, sticks, and pine needles, but this little pump made short work of removing all the water, even when submerged in the debris. In fact it worked so well that when it was finished my pool cover looked like it had vacuum sealed in all the leaves and debris.
