best patio umbrellas 2020

Here is our picks for the best patio umbrellas for the upcoming season. Let"s take a look and show you the pros and cons of each and then give you our final thoughts. Sound good? Let’s get started.

The Grand Patio

The first up is the 10 foot diameter Grand Patio umbrella. It has a cantilevered design and can be set with 360 degrees of rotation, allowing you to follow the sun. Essentially keeping you in the shade all day long.

The oval shaped aluminum pole provides more stability and rigidity than most common umbrella poles. The coffee colored pole and steel ribs are powder coated for a rust free finish. The design of this umbrella will keep it in place on windy days. The vented top allows the breeze to easily pass through adding to its stability.

One of the most damaging elements we come in contact with are the UV rays from the sun. This umbrella provides 98% protection from those harmful rays. Made from 100% fade resistant polyester, making it resistant to mold and easy to clean.

The removable crank on this umbrella makes it easy to change its 360 degree rotation. When setting this umbrella up the umbrella and cantilever can be done in one motion thanks to its Easy Open Lift system.

  • Awkward to move from location to location (no wheels)

Final Thoughts

Although reasonably priced, the weights are not included. Keep this in mind when comparing this to other umbrellas. The best thing about this umbrella is its ability to be set at 360 degrees. A major plus when it comes to sun protection throughout the day.

Napoli Deluxe Patio Umbrella

This umbrella has a diameter of 11 feet. The perfect size to cover a large dining area. Not only are the poles made of powder coated aluminum, so are the umbrella ribs. Making the entire thing rust free.

Not only is the entire thing resistant to rust but it’s also mobile. The hidden wheels on the base make it easy to move from one location to another. The base of this umbrella needs to be filled with wet sand or water for stability. There are also hidden stabilizer bars in the base for added stability.

The fabric on this umbrella boasts a double coating of UV protective polyurethane will keep it looking great without fading season after season. It also has a vented top and is water resistant

Napoli Deluxe Patio Umbrella

Pros and Cons

  • 11 foot diameter
  • Base included
  • Hidden wheels on base for easy mobility
  • Double coated UV protected fabric
  • Pole AND ribs are made of aluminum

  • Having to add sand to the base (water could also be used)
  • The most expensive on our list

Final Thoughts

The downsides to this umbrella are both fairly weak arguments. Adding water to the base to stabilize it is not a big deal at all, the sand may be a little more difficult but not a deal breaker by any means.

Although the Napoli Deluxe Patio Umbrella is the most expensive on the list, it is also the largest with the poles and ribs made of aluminum. If you priced it out, the cost of the other umbrellas start to creep up to the price of this one once you add the base and weights in.

Abba Patio Offset Cantilever Umbrella

Unlike the others, this umbrella has a rectangular shape. Giving you perfect coverage over your outdoor dining table.  Featuring a dual vented top for easy airflow and added stability.

Having a push button vertical tilt makes for easy positioning. The umbrella itself is made of treated polyester. Making it fade resistant and waterproof as well as UV protected.

The velcro strap holds it in place when folded and also has a small footprint for easy storage. The base weights for the Abba patio umbrella need to be purchased separately.

  • Three colors to choose from red, cocoa, and sand
  • Dual vented canopy

The Abba patio umbrella may be the rectangular shape you need for your situation. Perfect for outdoor dining and entertaining. The fact that the base and weights are sold separately is a concern when it comes to the overall price.

Our Pick

After taking a look at these three stand alone options, our final choice would have to be the Napoli Grand patio Deluxe Patio Umbrella. There are a few reasons for this.

The curved style of the pole gives our patio a more elegant look. Also all the major parts are made of aluminum. Even if this is a more expensive option, you are paying for quality.  If it lasts 5 more seasons than the other two then it is worth it in the end and hands down the best choice.

The fact is you really can’t go wrong with any of these patio umbrella options. The summer sun is on the way. Make sure you are ready. timing is everything. Get yours now so you can enjoy your backyard all summer long. Until next time enjoy your backyard water garden.
